Mangmi Air X: Specs, Price, Reviews and What It Emulates

The Mangmi Air X is a 5.5-inch Android handheld with a 1080p IPS screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 and a 5,000mAh battery. You can buy the Mangmi Air X from Mangmi's own store for $99.99 (checked 7 November 2026), against $149.99 at MechDIY and $165.99 at LitNXT for the same console. Reviewers agree on what it does: PSP and everything older runs well, GameCube and PS2 depend on the game, and anything newer is out of reach.

This page sets out the specs from Mangmi's listing, today's prices, what each system runs like, and what the outlets that tested it found. We have not tested one ourselves; every hands-on finding below is credited to the outlet that made it. Most of those reviews date from late 2025, when it sold for $80 to $90, so read their value verdicts with today's price in mind.

What it is

Mangmi's first handheld was announced in China at CNY 499, about $70, according to Notebookcheck in July 2025. International pricing followed that August at $79.99 early bird and $89.99 retail.

It is a horizontal 16:9 device with rear grips, running Android 14 with the Play Store. That makes it a PSP-shaped machine: Android Authority (Nick Fernandez, 20 November 2025) adopted it as a dedicated PSP handheld, and the 16:9 panel is the main reason. The same panel puts black bars either side of every 4:3 retro system.

Mangmi Air X specs

Specs below are from Mangmi's own listing, read on 7 November 2026, with the LitNXT and MechDIY listings matching on the chip, memory, battery and screen.

Screen 5.5-inch IPS touchscreen, 1920x1080, 400 nits, 100% sRGB
Battery 5,000mAh, 15W charging
Cooling Single fan

Connectivity Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack
System Android 14
Size and weight 203.47 × 87.39 × 16.80mm, 286g
Colours White, Black, Retro GB

Two small notes. Launch coverage gave the screen as 450 nits, and the listings now say 400. LitNXT and MechDIY round the size up to 20.4 × 8.8 × 1.7cm. DroiX's review adds that the panel runs at 60Hz.

The box holds the handheld, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a tempered glass screen protector and a manual. Mangmi's list names no wall charger, and it does not list the carrying case that early-bird buyers received.

Price and where to buy

Mangmi's store is $50 cheaper than MechDIY and $66 cheaper than LitNXT for the base console. All prices below were read from each store's product data on 7 November 2026, and every option was in stock.

Store Base console With a microSD card Colours
Mangmi Air X from Mangmi's own store $99.99 (was-price shown: $105.99) 128GB card +$35, 256GB card +$60 White, Black, Retro GB
Mangmi Air X at MechDIY $149.99 $159.99 with 128GB, $174.99 with 256GB White, Black, Retro Grey
Mangmi Air X at LitNXT $165.99 "Plus 128GB" $195.99, "Plus 256GB" $223.99 White, Black, Retro Gray

The headline price is not always the final price, so check three things before you decide.

  • Shipping. Mangmi adds it at checkout, based on weight and destination, and quotes 7 to 20 business days by 4PX or YunExpress. Notebookcheck saw a $15 fee in November 2025. Go as far as the checkout total to see your own figure. LitNXT's listing title says it ships in about seven days.
  • Import charges. Mangmi's product page shows "Duties & Taxes Included", but its shipping policy says the price excludes them and that the customer pays any charges on delivery. Those two statements conflict. If you are outside the US, ask Mangmi which one applies to your country before ordering.
  • What "Plus" means. LitNXT does not say whether its Plus options are the same console with a bundled card. MechDIY's equivalents are labelled as 64GB plus a card, so ask before paying the extra.

Readers in the UK can also look at DroiX, a retailer that sells the handheld and showed it in stock at £101.50 on its review page on 7 November 2026.

What it emulates, system by system

The short version is that PSP is the comfortable ceiling. Retro Handhelds, Android Authority and Time Extension all draw the line there, with Retro Dodo the outlier in being more positive about PS2 and GameCube.

System How it runs Who says so
8-bit, 16-bit, Game Boy Advance Flawless Retro Dodo, Time Extension
PS1 No issues Time Extension, DroiX, Retro Dodo
N64, Dreamcast Comfortable Time Extension, Retro Dodo
Sega Saturn Good once the controls are set up in the emulator Retro Dodo
Nintendo DS Smooth Notebookcheck, Retro Dodo
PSP Most games at 3x, which matches the 1080p screen Android Authority, Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck
3DS Many games at good speed; heavier ones slow down while shaders cache Retro Dodo, DroiX
GameCube Lighter games yes, demanding games no Retro Handhelds, Retro Dodo, Android Authority
Wii Playable at native, poor at 2x Retro Handhelds
PS2 Depends on the game Retro Handhelds, Retro Dodo, DroiX
PS Vita Mixed; lighter games reach full speed DroiX
Switch, PS3, Wii U Not worth trying Retro Handhelds

PS2 and GameCube in detail

The most useful numbers come from Retro Handhelds' comparison with the AYANEO Pocket Air Mini (13 January 2026).

Game Setting Result
Animal Crossing (GameCube) 2x About 58fps, with dips in transitions
Animal Crossing (GameCube) Native Steady 60fps
F-Zero GX (GameCube) Native 40 to 45fps while racing
Muramasa (Wii) Native / 2x 60fps / about 30fps
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) Native / 2x 40 to 50fps in play / about 23fps
Final Fantasy X (PS2) 3x Fairly steady 60fps, with brief dips to the upper 40s
Rogue Galaxy (PS2) Native 15 to 20fps, GPU at 100%

Retro Dodo's review (20 October 2025) tested a wider list by feel. On PS2, The Two Towers and Jak and Daxter played well, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and The Simpsons: Road Rage ran slow, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted would not run acceptably at any setting. On GameCube, Road Rage ran at full speed, The Wind Waker was about 95% of the original, and Super Mario Sunshine needed the Vulkan backend and still had slow cutscene audio.

Retro Handhelds' review (Ban, 10 December 2025) is more cautious than that, advising buyers to expect light GameCube and PS2 at best. DroiX, which sells the device, got very mixed PS2 results that shifted with emulator version, GPU drivers and settings, and Gran Turismo stayed under 60fps. If PS2 is your main reason to buy, our PS2 hidden gems list covers handhelds better suited to it.

Performance and Android games

The Snapdragon 662 is the weakest chip in this group. Android Authority calls it the lowest-end chip of any Android handheld that reviewer has tested, and Retro Handhelds notes that the Unisoc T620 beats it by around 30% in Geekbench.

DroiX's figures, published in July 2026:

Test Score
AnTuTu 256,886
Geekbench 6 340 single-core, 1,119 multi-core
Geekbench 5 315 single-core, 1,236 multi-core
3DMark Slingshot 1,980
3DMark Wild Life Extreme 115

For Android games, Notebookcheck found Asphalt ran well, War Thunder Mobile held about 45fps on low, and Genshin Impact was playable on low with slowdowns. Android Authority counts Genshin as off limits, so expect to accept compromises there. Controller-friendly 2D and indie games are the better fit.

Streaming is a stronger use than the chip suggests, since the PC does the work. Notebookcheck played Hogwarts Legacy and Escape from Tarkov through Steam Link over Wi-Fi, with display latency of up to 50 milliseconds on Hogwarts Legacy, which it rated acceptable for single-player games. For the options on Android, see our guide to Steam games on Android handhelds.

Battery, heat and noise

Mangmi claims up to 8 hours of mixed use. Reviewers' figures depend on the test:

Outlet Result Conditions
Android Authority About 6 hours PSP emulation
Android Authority Often over 8 hours Less demanding systems
Notebookcheck About 6 hours (estimated) More realistic on lighter systems
Time Extension About 5 hours Not stated
DroiX About 4 hours 30 minutes AnTuTu loop, full brightness, maximum fan

Android Authority timed a full charge at about two hours. DroiX measured a high of around 51°C on the display, and about 40dB on the quiet fan setting rising to 50dB on the highest. Outlets hear the fan differently: Retro Dodo calls it very quiet, while Notebookcheck says it is clearly audible when no game sound is playing.

Build, controls and screen

Comfort is where outlets agree most. Time Extension (25 November 2025) says it looks great and feels well made, and Android Authority found none of the rattle common to cheap handhelds. Retro Handhelds, which bought its own unit, rates the grips as more comfortable than those on the Retroid Pocket 5. Notebookcheck's one build complaint is the bottom USB-C port, which bends the cable when the device is resting while you play.

The D-pad divides them. It is smooth and slick: Time Extension enjoyed it and found diagonals easy, Retro Handhelds calls it passable, and Retro Dodo wanted raised grips on it. Notebookcheck says it is not among the best in its class. Retro Dodo also found the left trigger had less resistance than the right.

On the screen, Time Extension says it holds up respectably against OLED panels. Notebookcheck says it cannot match the brightness or vibrancy of a modern OLED phone, and Retro Handhelds warns it is not bright enough for direct sun.

Software and custom firmware

Android 14 is close to stock, with a sidebar for fan speed, performance modes, stick lighting and button mapping. Retro Handhelds received at least three over-the-air updates during its review. Mangmi's optional Game Launcher is the weak spot: Android Authority says it has no artwork or themes and moved to Beacon, Retro Dodo skipped it for the emulators directly, and DroiX found it misfiling games and suggests Daijisho.

Custom firmware has moved on since the reviews, and two routes now exist.

  • ROCKNIX is the Linux route. The 1 November 2026 release ships an SM6115 image that covers the MQ65, MQ66 and MQ66B hardware versions. Retro Handhelds told Linux fans to wait in December 2025. Images now exist, but we found no outlet test of how complete the support is.
  • GammaOS Next is a reworked Android build. Version 1.2.0 has been public since 12 February 2026, in Full and Lite versions. Retro Handhelds' install guide warns that it erases the device and is more involved than writing an SD card.

The hardware version matters for both. Find the first four characters of your serial number under Settings, Handheld Settings, About Device, Device Information, and download only the matching build.

How it compares

The market has moved since the reviews, and Mangmi now competes with itself. Prices below were checked on 7 November 2026.

Handheld Price Chip Screen shape Best for
Mangmi Air X from Mangmi's own store $99.99 Snapdragon 662 16:9 PSP and older on a wide screen
Retroid Pocket Classic from Retroid's own store $99 (two of eight colours in stock) Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 Near-square Vertical Game Boy-style play
Mangmi Air Y $94.99 (3GB/32GB) Snapdragon 662 Vertical The same chip in a vertical body
Mangmi Air Y Pro $159.99 (4GB/64GB), $189.99 (8GB/128GB) Snapdragon 865 Vertical More power for the money
AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini From $189.99 at LitNXT Helio G90T 4:3 Retro systems without black bars
Mangmi Pocket Max from Mangmi's own store $229.99 Snapdragon 865 16:9, 7-inch OLED A large screen and heavier emulation

Android Authority found the Pocket Classic's chip stronger on CPU and the Pocket AIR Mini's stronger on GPU, while saying none of the three emulates a whole extra console generation cleanly. Retro Handhelds' comparison landed on the same idea, recommending Mangmi's handheld for PSP and GBA and the Pocket AIR Mini for 4:3 systems. We could not read AYANEO's own store price today, so the LitNXT figure may not be the cheapest. Retro Handhelds' Air Y Pro review found it beat everything it tested between $100 and $200 in benchmarks.

The Anbernic RG 55G1 sits in the same conversation, and Retro Handhelds named Mangmi's handheld as better value. For other options at this price, see our best retro handhelds under $100.

Should you buy it?

At $99.99 from Mangmi, yes, if PSP and older is what you want to play. It is a comfortable, well-built first handheld with a sharp widescreen panel, and the extra $10 over the 2025 price does not change the reviewers' case. Android Authority called it the entry-level handheld to beat, Retro Handhelds picked it as its Android recommendation under $100, and DroiX scored it 8 out of 10.

At $149.99 or more, no. Those verdicts were written for a $90 device. For $159.99, Mangmi's Air Y Pro has a much faster chip, if you can live with a vertical shape. Pay partner prices only if buying from Mangmi directly is not an option for you.

Skip it if PS2 or GameCube is the point, because results swing from game to game. Android Authority also notes that if you already own a capable handheld, this is unlikely to be a meaningful upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Mangmi Air X cost?
On 7 November 2026 Mangmi's own store listed it at $99.99 in all three colours, with shipping added at checkout. MechDIY had it at $149.99 and LitNXT at $165.99 for the same 4GB/64GB console. It launched at an early-bird $79.99 in August 2025, with a $89.99 retail price.
Can the Mangmi Air X play PS2 games?
Some, but not reliably. Retro Handhelds measured Final Fantasy X at a fairly steady 60fps at 3x resolution, while Rogue Galaxy stayed at 15 to 20fps even at native resolution. Retro Dodo had Jak and Daxter running well and could not get Need for Speed: Most Wanted stable. Buy it for PSP and older systems, and treat PS2 as a bonus.
Can the Mangmi Air X play GameCube games?
Lighter ones, yes. Retro Handhelds recorded Animal Crossing at around 58fps at 2x resolution and a steady 60fps at native, and F-Zero GX at 40 to 45fps at native. Retro Dodo called The Wind Waker about 95% of the original experience, while Super Mario Sunshine needed the Vulkan backend and still had slow cutscene audio. Android Authority rates GameCube and above as spotty.
Does the Mangmi Air X come with games?
No. LitNXT's listing says the console has no pre-installed games, MechDIY's base option is labelled as having no games, and the microSD cards Mangmi sells alongside it are listed as empty. You load your own game files onto the internal storage or a microSD card.
Can the Mangmi Air X run Linux or ROCKNIX?
Yes. The ROCKNIX release of 1 November 2026 includes an SM6115 image for the Air X in its MQ65, MQ66 and MQ66B hardware versions. GammaOS Next, an Android-based alternative, also has separate MQ65 and MQ66 builds. Check the first four characters of your serial number in Handheld Settings before you download either.
Is the Mangmi Air X better than the AYANEO Pocket Air Mini?
It depends on what you play. Retro Handhelds' comparison gave the Air X the edge on GameCube and the Pocket Air Mini the edge on Wii at 2x resolution and on harder PS2 games. The Air X has a 16:9 screen, which suits PSP, while the Pocket Air Mini's 4:3 screen suits older consoles. On 7 November 2026 LitNXT listed the Pocket Air Mini from $189.99.
