AYN Odin 3: Specs, Price, Reviews and Which Version to Buy
The AYN Odin 3 is a 6-inch OLED Android handheld on the Dragonwing Q8, from $369 at AYN as a pre-order. Specs, prices, what reviewers found, which tier to buy.

The AYN Odin 3 is a 6-inch Android handheld with a 1080p 120Hz AMOLED screen, Qualcomm's Dragonwing Q8 chip and an 8,000mAh battery. On 31 October 2026 it cost $369 for the Base (8GB/128GB) at AYN's own store as a Batch 8 pre-order, or $659.99 for the Pro in stock at LitNXT. Reviewers rate it the strongest all-round Android handheld you can buy, with two caveats: the fan whines under long heavy loads, and Switch and Wii U emulation is less settled than on older Snapdragon chips.
This page sets out the specs from AYN's and LitNXT's listings, the prices checked today, what the outlets that tested it found, and which of the four memory tiers to pick. We have not tested an Odin 3 ourselves; every hands-on finding below is credited to the outlet that made it.
What the Odin 3 is
AYN is the Chinese maker behind the Odin 2, the Odin 2 Portal and the dual-screen Thor. The Odin 3 is its 2025 flagship in the Odin 2's shape: a 6-inch horizontal handheld with grips, full-size Hall effect sticks and a glass front. AYN opened pre-orders on Indiegogo in September 2025, according to Retro Handhelds and Notebookcheck, and moved to direct orders on its own store once units began shipping. It still sells that way, in numbered pre-order batches; the current listing is Batch 8.
It runs Android 15, so it plays Android games and every emulator on the Play Store, and it can stream or run PC games through the routes in our guide to Steam games on Android handhelds.

Two spec points have changed since launch, and older reviews still carry the first versions.
The chip. AYN sold the Odin 3 as the first Snapdragon 8 Elite handheld, then corrected it to the Dragonwing Q8. Android Authority (Taylor Kerns, 9 April 2026) reported that the two share the same 3nm Oryon CPU at 4.32GHz and the same Adreno 830 GPU, and that the Q8 lacks the 5G modem. AYN told the outlet the two "share identical cpu/gpu configuration". Benchmarks published before April that say "8 Elite" are describing this same hardware.
The memory speed. Early units were advertised with 5,300MHz RAM. Retro Handhelds (Joe White, 17 January 2026) collected readings from owners and reviewers that came in lower and varied by batch, and AYN then stated that all four models use the same RAM clocked at 4,266MHz (8,333Mbps). No outlet has shown the difference changing what games run.

AYN Odin 3 price, checked 31 October 2026
| Tier | Memory / storage | AYN Odin 3 from AYN's own store (pre-order) | AYN Odin 3 at LitNXT (in stock) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 8GB / 128GB | $369 | Not listed |
| Pro | 12GB / 256GB | $469 | $659.99 |
| Max | 16GB / 512GB | $529 | $759.99 |
| Ultra | 24GB / 1TB | $569, sold out | Not listed |
AYN direct is $190 cheaper for the Pro and $230 cheaper for the Max, and it is the only place in this table that sells the Base. The trade is waiting: AYN ships in batches, while LitNXT had every Pro and Max colour in stock today.
The price has gone up twice. Retro Handhelds' January 2026 review gave the Base as $329 and the Max as $449, and the earliest Indiegogo backers paid $299 for a Base. Android Authority (Hadlee Simons, 25 August 2026) reported a rise effective 1 September 2026: Base $349 to $369, Pro $449 to $469, Max $499 to $529, part of a run of increases it tied to rising RAM costs. If you see an older price quoted, that is why.
What reviewers found
Retro Handhelds (Ban, 17 January 2026, updated 4 April 2026) tested the Max. Its 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test scored 6,541 with 97.9% stability, ahead of the AYANEO and KONKR devices it compared, and the reviewer found most GameCube and PS2 games ran at 1080p, usually with RetroArch set to Vulkan. Switch games from the reviewer's library ran well in Eden, with Citron as a fallback, and PS3 ran some titles in RPCS3. On the hardware side, the review praised the screen and the larger sticks, and disliked the glass front, the inset D-pad and right stick, and a fan that "can whine" under long heavy loads. The verdict calls the Odin 3 the likely new default Android handheld, while pointing buyers who want the widest compatibility to the KONKR Pocket Fit or a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device.
Notebookcheck (Alex Alderson, 19 November 2025) summarised early video reviews, including Retro Game Corps'. GameCube and PS2 ran on a 4K external monitor with headroom to spare, and 3DMark Wild Life Extreme scores were nearly double the Odin 2's. Switch and Wii U were held back by the lack of custom Turnip graphics drivers for the new GPU at the time, and the Odin 2 was the better pick for those two systems. Modern AAA PC games struggled even at 720p.
Retro Game Corps returned to it in AYN Odin 3: Six Months Later, and its June 2026 newsletter said the Odin 3 was still its daily driver and "keeps getting better thanks to software tweaks, driver updates, and Linux compatibility".
DroiX, a retailer that sells the Odin 3, published a long review (DaveC, 13 March 2026, updated 4 September 2026) on the 16GB/512GB model. It measured 2 hours 25 minutes of battery running AnTuTu in a loop at full brightness on the High Performance profile, a worst case rather than typical play. Fan noise averaged about 52dB on the Smart profile and 63dB on Max. It found PS2, 3DS and PS Vita games ran well where the emulators supported them, with failures it put down to emulator builds rather than the hardware.

What it plays
Putting the reviews together, as of October 2026:
| System | How it runs, per the reviews above |
|---|---|
| Older systems up to PS1, N64, Dreamcast and PSP | Runs well; Retro Handhelds found everything up to GameCube and PS2 ran well |
| GameCube and PS2 | Most games at 1080p or higher (Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck); some PS2 titles show emulator bugs (DroiX) |
| 3DS and PS Vita | Compatible games run well; some stutter or crash depending on emulator version (DroiX) |
| Switch | Good in Eden on Retro Handhelds' library; less settled than on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices because of graphics driver support (Notebookcheck) |
| Wii U | Held back by the same driver gap at launch (Notebookcheck) |
| PS3 | Some titles playable in RPCS3 (Retro Handhelds) |
| Windows PC games | Indie and older games through GameHub, GameNative or Winlator; modern AAA games struggle (Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck) |
Driver support moves fast on these chips, so the Switch and Wii U rows are the ones most likely to have improved since the reviews were written. For the PC side, our Steam games guide covers GameHub, GameNative and Winlator, and DroidDeck is another route.
Linux. AYN announced initial Linux support for the Odin 3 in April 2026. Android Authority (Hadlee Simons, 16 April 2026) reported almost everything working except the microphone and vibration, and suggested waiting for community builds of Batocera or ROCKNIX, which boot from a microSD card and leave Android untouched.
Which version to buy
- Base, 8GB/128GB ($369 at AYN). Enough for retro systems up to PS2 and GameCube; add a microSD card for games. It is only sold by AYN direct.
- Pro, 12GB/256GB ($469 at AYN, $659.99 at LitNXT). The middle tier, and the cheapest one LitNXT stocks. Twice the Base's storage holds a larger library on the internal drive.
- Max, 16GB/512GB ($529 at AYN, $759.99 at LitNXT). Worth it if you plan to run Windows games, which use the most memory and storage. Retro Handhelds tested this tier.
- Ultra, 24GB/1TB. Sold out at AYN on 31 October 2026. No reviewer we read showed a game that needs 24GB.
If you want it this week, LitNXT has it in stock. If you can wait for AYN's batch, the same Pro costs $190 less.
Against the rest of AYN's lineup

The Odin 3 Portal is the same chip in a bigger body with a bigger battery, for $30 more at the entry tier. The AYN Thor trades chip speed for a second screen, which matters for DS and 3DS games; our dual-screen handheld comparison covers that choice. The Odin 2 Portal is the older chip at a lower price, and Notebookcheck's reviewers found it still handled Switch and Wii U better at the Odin 3's launch.
For a wider view across makers, our best handheld emulator guide puts the Odin 3 next to the Retroid, Anbernic and AYANEO options.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does the AYN Odin 3 cost?
- On 31 October 2026 AYN's own store listed the Odin 3 as a Batch 8 pre-order at $369 for the Base (8GB/128GB), $469 for the Pro (12GB/256GB) and $529 for the Max (16GB/512GB). The Ultra (24GB/1TB) was sold out. LitNXT had the Pro at $659.99 and the Max at $759.99, in stock, so AYN direct was $190 to $230 cheaper if you can wait for the batch to ship.
- What is the AYN Odin 3's screen size?
- The Odin 3 has a 6-inch AMOLED touchscreen at 1920x1080, with a 120Hz refresh rate that can be switched to 60Hz. LitNXT's listing gives 650 nits peak brightness. The Odin 3 Portal, a separate and larger model, has a 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen.
- Does the AYN Odin 3 use a Snapdragon 8 Elite?
- No. AYN first marketed it as a Snapdragon 8 Elite handheld and later corrected that to the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8. Android Authority reported in April 2026 that the two chips share the same 3nm Oryon CPU at up to 4.32GHz and the same Adreno 830 GPU; the Dragonwing Q8 drops the cellular modem, which a handheld does not use.
- Is the AYN Odin 3 worth it?
- For most people who want one Android handheld that runs everything up to PS2 and GameCube at high resolution, the reviewers say yes. Retro Handhelds called it the likely new default Android handheld, and Retro Game Corps was still using it as a daily driver six months after release. The caveats are fan whine under heavy load and uneven Switch and Wii U emulation on the newer chip.
- What is the difference between the Odin 3 and the Odin 3 Portal?
- Both use the Dragonwing Q8. The Odin 3 Portal has a larger 7-inch AMOLED screen, a 9,000mAh battery instead of 8,000mAh, and weighs about 450g against the Odin 3's 390g. On 31 October 2026 AYN listed the Portal from $399 (12GB/128GB) with shipping due to start in early November, against $369 for the Odin 3 Base.
- Can the AYN Odin 3 run Linux?
- Yes, in an early form. AYN announced initial Linux support in April 2026, and Android Authority reported that almost everything worked apart from the microphone and vibration. Retro Game Corps also named Linux compatibility as one of the reasons the Odin 3 kept improving after launch.
