Retroid Pocket Duo Turnip Drivers: Setup for 3DS at 3x, PS2 at 2x and Switch
Set up the Turnip Duo drivers and ARMSX2 on the Retroid Pocket Duo: 3DS at 3x resolution, PS2 at 2x, plus Switch and Wii U results, per Retro Game Corps.

The Retroid Pocket Duo got two driver updates in late October 2026 that change its best settings. Turnip Duo v5.1 (24 October), a community Vulkan driver for the Duo's Adreno 722 GPU, lets 3DS games run at 3x resolution in Azahar instead of 2x, and speeds up Switch, Wii U and original Xbox emulation. ARMSX2 2.9 (26 October) builds its own Duo-tuned driver into the app, and PS2 at 2x resolution is now the default you can expect. Both are free. This guide gives the exact settings, game by game.
The settings and results come from Retro Game Corps' 1 November video, which tested both updates on a retail Duo. Version numbers and release notes come from the projects' GitHub pages, read on 1 November 2026. We have not tested the Duo ourselves.
Retro Game Corps, "BIG Driver Updates for the Retroid Pocket Duo", 1 November 2026. Timestamps: 3DS settings 1:33, 3DS games 3:26, Xbox, Wii U and Switch 7:04, PS2 9:56.
What changed
| Update | Released | What it does | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turnip Duo v5.1 | 24 October 2026 | Vulkan driver built for the Duo's Adreno 722, loaded into Azahar, Eden, Cemu and other emulators | GitHub: turnip-adreno722-duo, file Turnip-Duo-v5.1.zip (2.7 MB) |
| ARMSX2 2.9 | 26 October 2026 | PS2 emulator's one-year release: its own ARMSX2 Turnip driver offered in setup, with much of the tuning done on the Duo | GitHub: ARMSX2 releases |

The Turnip Duo driver is a community project, not a Retroid release. Its author describes it as built on Mesa 27.0.0-devel with a hardware profile read from a physical Duo, and asks for bug reports on the project's GitHub issues page.

Before you start
The Turnip Duo page recommends two system settings on the Duo itself: Performance Mode on Performance or Extreme, and Fan Mode on Sport or Smart, so the chip does not throttle. Download the driver zip directly onto the Duo; you install it from inside each emulator, not from Android's file manager.
3DS in Azahar: 3x resolution
This is the biggest gain. In his review, Retro Game Corps recommended 2x internal resolution (about 480p) to keep room for fast-forward. With Turnip Duo he now recommends 3x (about 720p) with the same headroom, and says games run more smoothly than on the Duo's stock driver.
- Open Azahar's Settings, then GPU Driver Manager. Tap Install, go to your Downloads folder and pick the Turnip Duo zip.
- In Graphics, set the backend to Vulkan and turn on Asynchronous shaders if it is off.
- Set Internal resolution to 3x.
- Leave Disable right eye render off. Turning it on is faster, but it breaks some games, Metroid: Samus Returns among them.
- In Debug, turn Enable hardware shader off. It is on by default and is faster, but it causes stutters. Turn it back on only for the games that need it (below).
With those settings, these played well at 3x in his testing: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, LEGO Batman 2, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Pokémon Omega Ruby (about 200% speed on fast-forward) and New Super Mario Bros. 2. LEGO Batman 2 previously ran best at 2x.
Games that need a different setting
Azahar has no per-game settings, so you switch hardware shaders by hand from the quick menu: Settings, then Debug.
| Game | Hardware shader | Result at 3x, per Retro Game Corps |
|---|---|---|
| Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D | On | About 75% speed with it off; full speed and about 250% fast-forward with it on |
| Super Mario 3D Land | On | Full speed either way, but only on gives fast-forward room (about 250%) |
| Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate | On | Playable at 3x for the first time, about 200% fast-forward; it previously needed 2x |
| Pokémon Ultra Sun | Off | With it on, Pokémon render as outlines; off gives 150 to 200% fast-forward |
The Turnip Duo author reports The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D holding 30 fps at 4x with an HD texture pack, which suggests lighter games have room above 3x.
PS2 in ARMSX2: 2x resolution
ARMSX2 2.9 was largely tuned on the Duo. Its release notes say the app's optimised build was trained on the Duo across 16 games and that the Adreno 722 gets rendering rules it needs under Turnip. The driver is built in, so there is nothing separate to download.
- Install ARMSX2 2.9.1 from its GitHub releases page. The release offers four APKs by Android version; the Duo runs Android 16, so the a15 build matches it.
- In Graphics, set Renderer to Vulkan.
- Under GPU driver, tap Download, pick ARMSX2 Turnip from the top of the list and download it.
- Scroll to the upscaling options and set 2x.

| Game | Result at 2x |
|---|---|
| God of War II | 115 to 120% on fast-forward (Retro Game Corps); 123% in widescreen (ARMSX2's notes). It previously needed 1x |
| Burnout Revenge | About 140% on fast-forward, small dips in crashes (Retro Game Corps) |
| Shadow of the Colossus | Steady on horseback and near a colossus (Retro Game Corps); 150% at 2.5x (ARMSX2's notes) |
| Champions of Norrath | 175 to 200% on fast-forward in the first stage; later stages are heavier (Retro Game Corps) |
| Black | 124% at 2.5x (ARMSX2's notes) |
Shadow of the Colossus is capped at 30 fps on purpose since 2.9. ARMSX2's notes explain that the game jumps between 60 and 30 fps on its own, which stutters, so the game database holds it at a steady 30. Retro Game Corps' conclusion is that ARMSX2 alone should now cover most PS2 games on the Duo, without switching between emulators.
Switch, Wii U and original Xbox
The same Turnip Duo zip goes into each emulator's own GPU driver manager. Results from Retro Game Corps' video:
| System and emulator | Game | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Switch, Eden (handheld, 720p) | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | Close to 60 fps, even on a new track; item icons flicker |
| Switch, Eden | Super Mario Odyssey | About 55 to 58 fps, with shader stutter in new areas |
| Switch, Eden | Metroid Dread | 50 to 55 fps |
| Wii U, Cemu | The Wind Waker HD | About 30 fps, dipping to 27 or 28 |
| Wii U, Cemu | Breath of the Wild | Crashes shortly after starting |
| Original Xbox, HakuX | About six games | All fine at 2x |
For HakuX setup, see his 28 October video on original Xbox emulation. The Turnip Duo page suggests Eden's Accuracy on Normal, VSync on Mailbox or FIFO Relaxed, and the Bilinear window filter.
Which Duo does this apply to?
The Dragonwing Q-7790 and its Adreno 722 GPU are what the Turnip Duo driver is built for. Image: Retroid.
| Model | Chip and GPU | Screens | Price at Retroid, 1 November 2026 | Guide applies? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Retroid Pocket Duo | Dragonwing Q-7790, Adreno 722 | 5.5" + 4.5" OLED, 120Hz | $269, in stock | Yes |
| Duo Lite Plus | Dragonwing Q-7790, Adreno 722 | 5.5" + 4.2" TFT, 60Hz | $219, ships mid-November | Same GPU, but untested |
| Retroid Pocket Duo Lite | QCS6125, Adreno 610 | 5.5" + 4.2" TFT, 60Hz | From $149 | No |
The Duo and both Lite models are sold only on Retroid's own store. For how the Duo compares with the AYN Thor, the Anbernic RG DS and RG DDS, see our dual-screen handheld guide. For a launcher that uses both screens, Cocoon 3 supports suspend and resume on Retroid devices. Every other handheld we track is on the devices page.
What to watch
Retro Game Corps says a full Duo starter guide is coming, covering the Duo Lite as well, along with tests of GammaOS. ARMSX2 posts builds almost daily, and Turnip Duo had at least three releases in October, so check both GitHub pages before you settle on a setup. If a game misbehaves after an update, the quickest test is to switch back to the system driver in that emulator's GPU driver manager.
These drivers and emulators do not include games or BIOS files. You need your own dumps of games you own.
Frequently asked questions
- What are Turnip drivers?
- Turnip is the open-source Vulkan driver for Qualcomm Adreno GPUs, part of the Mesa project. Community builds of it can be loaded into Android emulators such as Azahar, Eden and Cemu in place of the phone maker's own driver. On the Retroid Pocket Duo, the Turnip Duo build is tuned for its Adreno 722 and runs 3DS, Switch and Wii U games faster than the stock driver.
- How do I install Turnip drivers on the Retroid Pocket Duo?
- Download Turnip-Duo-v5.1.zip from the turnip-adreno722-duo releases page on GitHub onto the Duo. In the emulator, open Settings, then GPU Driver Manager, tap Install and pick the zip from your Downloads folder. Each emulator keeps its own driver list, so repeat this in Azahar, Eden and Cemu separately.
- What resolution should I use for 3DS on the Retroid Pocket Duo?
- 3x internal resolution, which is roughly 720p. Retro Game Corps recommended 2x in his original review, then moved to 3x after testing the Turnip Duo drivers in Azahar, with the same fast-forward headroom as before. Use the Vulkan backend, turn on asynchronous shaders and leave Disable Right Eye Render off for the widest compatibility.
- Is the Retroid Pocket Duo good for PS2?
- Yes, after ARMSX2 2.9. That release, out on 26 October 2026, offers its own ARMSX2 Turnip driver in setup and was largely tuned on the Duo. Retro Game Corps found God of War II, Burnout Revenge, Shadow of the Colossus and Champions of Norrath all playable at 2x resolution, where God of War II previously needed 1x.
- Do these drivers work on the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite?
- Not on the $149 Duo Lite, which uses a Qualcomm QCS6125 with an Adreno 610 GPU. The $219 Duo Lite Plus uses the same Dragonwing Q-7790 and Adreno 722 as the full Duo, so the drivers target its GPU, but the Turnip Duo page lists only the Duo and Retro Game Corps tested only the Duo.
- Can the Retroid Pocket Duo run Switch games?
- Some, in handheld mode at 720p with Eden and the Turnip Duo driver. Retro Game Corps measured Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at close to 60 fps with flickering item icons, Super Mario Odyssey at about 55 to 58 fps with shader stutter in new areas, and Metroid Dread at 50 to 55 fps. Treat Switch as a bonus on this device, not the reason to buy it.
